How it happened, Suspilne learned.
Volodymyr Andreev is a volunteer and blogger, but for the evening he became a waiter in one of the establishments on Rynok Square in Lviv to raise money for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Before that, he says, in his youth he worked part-time at a cafe in Kamianets-Podilskyi.
"I worked there, I wouldn't even call it a waiter, there was an establishment where they poured 50 grams, so I was engaged in this pouring. They still pour 50 grams there, but where am I? And I already pour 0.5 and a liter. Then I will ask for donations - I will tell you what we are collecting for, where we are collecting," says Volodymyr Andreev.
Over a century ago, waiters in Lviv were called restaurant workers. Now these are different professions: waiters, bartenders, baristas, etc. The city holiday of the waiter is held every year on May 22. This year, during the celebrations, attention is drawn to those hospitality workers in Lviv who went to defend the country. They also collect money for the needs of the Ukrainian army.
"All the money that will be collected by public waiters and waitresses will be transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These are various open meetings, some of the waiters or waitresses have their own meetings, they support them. Someone joins other public ones. But we will definitely announce this amount," says the head of the city's tourism department, Khrystyna Lebed.
Volodymyr Andreev volunteered to be a waiter for the evening to remind people how important it is to help close meetings for the military.
"Either you donate now, or you will fight in the Russian army later," the blogger adds.
In total, almost two dozen establishments joined the celebration of Waiter's Day in Lviv. And just as many famous people in the city stood behind the bar or put on a waiter's uniform. The amount of donations they collected will be made public after they are counted in each of the establishments.
