87 High Aesthetics of Service for Children's Smiles: How the Ukrainian School of Hospitality and LDUFK Students Supported the Vienna Ball at the Lviv Opera

On May 28, the grand Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Solomiya Krushelnytska hosted a magnificent social and charitable event — the Vienna Ball. This year's event combined exquisite traditions, art, and a deeply noble cause: raising funds for the construction of a modern Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disabilities.

The inspirational force behind the creation of this center is Halyna Bondaruk, whose active social stance and tireless work are dedicated to giving children with special needs a chance for high-quality rehabilitation, adaptation, and a happy future. Establishing such a space requires strong support from patrons, and the Vienna Ball became the perfect platform to unite the efforts of caring hearts.

Organizing an elite event of this scale demanded absolute flawlessness in every aspect. The core of the evening — the gastronomic accompaniment and premium catering — was entrusted to professionals. The project became a shining example of synergy between academic education and social responsibility, thanks to the participation of students from the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Business at the Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture (LDUFK).

Initiative and Support of the Academic Community

Involving future HoReCa specialists in such large-scale charitable projects of international caliber is the result of the consistent and dedicated work of the Head of the Department, Doctor of Sciences, Professor Mariia Paska. Thanks to her vision and comprehensive support, the university's students regularly integrate into the practical environment of the premium segment, gaining a unique opportunity to hone their skills at the most demanding venues while still completing their studies.

Hospitality School in Action: Coordination and Excellence Service Standards

The chief architect of the gastronomic space and the coordinator of the student team on-site was Mykhailo Sheveliuk — a lecturer at the department, an expert in service psychology, and the founder of the Ukrainian School of Hospitality.

Mykhailo Sheveliuk and the Ukrainian School of Hospitality he leads have long been transforming approaches to education in the hotel and restaurant business, popularizing the philosophy of the "economy of impressions" and deep empathy toward the guest. The team's preparation for the Vienna Ball was based on strict international standards: from flawless knowledge of etiquette and high-end serving rules to psychological resilience and seamless coordination under tight time constraints.

Under the mentorship of Mykhailo Sheveliuk, first-year and senior students operated as a single, well-oiled mechanism:

Timing and Logistics: Every serving of food and beverages was perfectly synchronized with the musical and official program of the ball.

Aesthetics of Presentation: Exceptional attention to detail — from flawless pouring to the presentation of dishes that harmonized with the luxury of the Lviv Opera.

Communication: A high level of empathy, sincerity, and hospitality that perfectly matched the charitable status of the evening.

Practice that Builds the Future

For the students, participating in the Vienna Ball was not just a practice session, but a true immersion into the major league of the hospitality industry. The ability to work cohesively and professionally for such a noble cause as helping children with disabilities lays a solid foundation for their future careers.

The Ukrainian School of Hospitality and the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Business at LDUFK have proven once again that true hospitality has a big heart. Through a high culture of service, the HoReCa sector becomes a powerful tool for supporting the most vital social initiatives in the country!
